Leonardo Da Vinci said “Nothing deceives us so much as our own judgement”. Nowadays, five centuries later, these words are even more relevant because of the evolution of our society. In fact, from a very simplistic point of view, it is usual to find two kinds of ethical people: people who are that, just ethical, and some others who are more than ethical, truly ethical.
To be ethical, or ethics, is also known as a moral Philosophy. This is related with propositions about moral values that individuals apply in life in order to develop themselves in the society. It is sure that Socrates himself analysed the difference between the moral values of his contemporaneous Greek society in comparison with other closer societies that were less developed in those days. He posited that people would naturally do what is good. Therefore, this posed some problems, such as criminal behaviour, which other philosophy schools would try to solve after him.
All of that leads us to wonder whether our moral values are the same ones that our fellows. Moreover, perhaps our fellows would be astonished, shocked, even upset when we acted naturally within our moral rules in every situation, in any place and with anybody. If having moral values make us ethical beings, being always ethical applying knowledge (Socrates, Aristotle) would make us truly ethical. This is, in my opinion, the heart of the matter. Another question would be the subtle line between being truly ethical and the honesty related with politeness.
